Sold with the certificate of W. E. Hill & Sons, London, dated 7th October 1929 and a letter from Robert Bein, Cincinnati, dated 1st September 1973
This instrument was owned by Anton Maaskoff, violinist and professor at the University of Southern California who also owned the 'Irish, Burgundy, St. Sebastien, Maaskoff' Stradivari of 1694 and the 'Lafont' Guarneri del Gesù of 1736. The violin was subsequently owned by Joseph Fefard, who played with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra for nearly 30 years.
The sale of this violin will help provide scholarships for disadvantaged college students.
