Provenance
This violin has been in the possession of the same family for at least 130 years. It was played by the grandmother of the present owner in the 1880s. She passed the violin to her son, who lived near Arnhem and travelled on foot to his violin lessons in the town.
During the battle of Arnhem in 1944 the family house was destroyed and all its contents looted, but the violin, which was in the greenhouse, survived.
