Provenance
Aaron Raphael was a freelance musician in New York until he was drafted into World War II. He performed in dance bands and many of the parties hosted by celebrities of the day. In 1939 he played in the orchestra at President Roosevelt's Hyde Park residence on the Hudson river, known as the 'Hot Dog summit' when the President gave his rather surprised guests, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, their first experience of hot dogs. After the war he became a school music teacher and after retirement he continued to play chamber music with friends. Raphael acquired his Guarneri in 1965 at Wurlitzers and played it lovingly for the rest of his life. The violin has remained in his family ever since.
