Provenance
Pierrette Galeone won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music at the age of 16, and continued her studies at the Paris Conservatoire. In 1949, aged 23, she played the first movement of Lalo's Symphonie Espagnole on the TV show Opportunity Knocks. She founded the Galeone Pianoforte Ensemble in 1952 and was invited by Walter Legge to join the Philharmonia Orchestra, where she played under Karajan, Menuhin and Toscanini as one of the few female players in the orchestra.
Pierrette was the longest serving member of both the Musicians' Union and the Royal Society of Musicians and her bow is being sold by her family.
