An apprentice of GB Rinaldi, who himself was a Pressenda pupil, Carlo Giuseppe Oddone can be considered the heir of the great Turin tradition of violin making. Having refined his skills in London under Frederick William Chanot he returned to Italy in 1892 where he opened his own shop in Turin. His work is mainly influenced by Guarneri del Gesù and Stradivari, with a hint of Pressenda.
This cello is made on a Stradivari model, well-proportioned and covered in Oddone’s typical golden orange varnish of beautiful clarity, highlighting the handsomely figured maple and the finely grained spruce.
An exquisite instrument not only visually but also tonally, this cello has a very colourful and focused sound with a distinctive timbre across all registers.
