A cello by Giovanni Francesco Pressenda

Turin, circa 1845

Pressenda was the most important Italian violin maker of the first half of the nineteenth century. This finely proportioned cello is a superb example of his mature period, exhibiting many characteristic traits, not least of which is the bold and beautifully balanced outline with prominent but elegant corners. In terms of sound it leaves little to be desired.
