London, 1775

William Forster II can certainly be described as one of the most distinguished English cello makers of the 18th century. Following in the footsteps of his father, he established himself in the 1760’s and was joined by his own son in 1785.

This cello is representative of his best work, with a ruby-red oil varnish and beautiful attention to detail in the f-holes and edgework. It has an elegant and vibrant sound with a colourful range of overtones.
