Pietro Guarneri left Cremona in 1717 to start his business in Venice, and his style evolved into a combination of Cremonese and Venetian elements. This violin is a representative example of the maker’s late work, bold in proportions and arching, and using characteristically flamboyant materials. It was the concert instrument of the renowned violinist Nicola Benedetti, and it was on this violin that she won the BBC Young Musician of The Year in 2004. Its tonal qualities are superb.
