A violin by Daniel Parker

London, 1716

Little is known about this fine British maker, but he can be considered one of the most accomplished craftsmen of his time. He understood the methods of his Italian contemporaries and adapted them successfully to his own work and to the local materials at his disposal. He probably trained with Barak Norman but found inspiration in instruments by Stainer and Stradivari. This violin, inspired by Stradivari’s long pattern from the 1690’s, is a particularly beautiful example in a lovely state of preservation. It has a very strong sound with and an easy and quick response.
