Provenance
This violin has been in the possession of the same family for 150 years. It was bought by Amalie Mollner, the great-great aunt of the current owner, in the 1870s.

Mollner was a pupil of Jaques [Jakob] Dont (1815-1888), who was a celebrated Viennese teacher and wrote two sets of studies for the violin. She was active as a soloist until her marriage to the painter Carl Müller, a member of the Sezession movement. He made numerous paintings and drawings of his wife.

The violin has remained in the possession of Mollner's family ever since, and has been played by a number of her descendants.
