Dominique Peccatte is regarded, alongside François Tourte, as one of the greatest French bow makers. He began his career as a violin maker before apprenticing in bow making under Jean Persoit at the workshop of J.B. Vuillaume in Paris. In 1847, he established his own workshop in Mirecourt. This bow, made during Peccatte's Paris period, is unmistakably the work of a mature craftsman at the height of his abilities. It offers exceptional playing qualities, combining strength, perfect balance, and a rich palette of beautiful overtones. At the same time, it has remained in an outstanding state of preservation, making it easy to understand why Bernard Millant described this example as both "beautiful" and "rare."
