A silver-mounted violin bow made by Eugène Sartory

Paris, circa 1895

Sartory’s early bows are always of very fine quality, and this lovely example is no exception. It is a fine bow made on his personal model which is based on J.A. Lamy’s lesser seen but very fine model. The young Sartory perfected his artistry with Lamy after a short apprenticeship with his father. He had an exquisite choice of wood at his disposal, compared with what was generally used in Paris in the late 19th century. This bow has an elegant stick which produces a rich and colourful sound across all four strings. It is articulate and very reliable. Certainly a great asset for a professional musician with the highest demands.
