A violin by Alessandro D’Espine

Turin, circa 1830

The quality of workmanship of D’Espine is impressive, showing his close relationship to the Guadagnini family and the influence of G.F. Pressenda. Most of his violins are made on Stradivari models as is this beautiful example. The instrument is made from exceptional wood and covered in luscious orange-red varnish. The sound is articulate, focused and strong.
