Notable Sales: François Caussin
François Caussin was born in Rouvres-la-Chétive, Vosges, in 1794 and trained with Louis Gaillard in Mirecourt before establishing his shop in his home town in 1815. He moved to Neufchâteau in 1830, where he died in 1866. His work is neatly executed on Amati and Stradivari models, often with antiqued varnish in the style of J.B. Vuillaume, but of slightly lesser quality. His instruments are occasionally labelled ‘Caussin Luthier, Neufchâteau (Vosges)’ but more often bear the names of classical Italian makers.
