Notable Sales: Claude Joseph Fonclause
Fonclause was born in Mirecourt in 1799. From his style, he is assumed to have been a pupil of Etienne Pajeot. He was active in Paris from around 1832, and worked for J.B.Vuillaume until 1840, when he established his own workshop in rue Pagevin, continuing to supply Vuillaume and possibly Simon. Later bows show the influence of Peccatte. His bows are branded ‘FONCLAUSE’ in small or large type. He died in Paris in 1862.
