Notable Sales: Charles Jean Baptiste Collin-Mézin I
Born in Mirecourt in 1841, the son and pupil of Claude Nicolas Collin, Charles Jean continued his training with N.F.Vuillaume in Brussels before opening his own shop at 8-14 rue de Faubourg Poissoniere in Paris in 1867. An excellent craftsman, he was awarded prizes at several Paris exhibitions between 1878 and 1900, and was made ‘Officier d’Academie des Beaux-Arts’ in 1884. A prolific maker of copies of Amati, Stradivari and Guarneri, there are also many lesser factory-produced instruments that bear his brand. He died in 1934.
