Franz Kinberg was born in Apatin, Serbia, in 1920, but spent most of his working life in the USA. Initially self-taught, he gained experience with Lajos Kain in Zrenjanin from 1937-1939, and then with Franz Schneider in Zagreb, Remenyi in Budapest and Hofman & Czerny in Vienna. He emigrated to America in 1949, working for Kagan & Gaines in Chicago until his retirement in 1982. He was awarded a gold medal in The Hague in 1949, and made a number of copies of master instruments, which are branded internally F. Kinberg.
