Louis Joseph Morizot was born in 1874 in Darney, about 30km from Mirecourt. He trained with Cuniot and C.N. Bazin, staying with the latter until 1914, when he began to work with Sartory in Paris. He set up his own business in Mirecourt in 1919 and was assisted by his sons (five of his six children were bow makers) from 1920. Morizot worked for a number of French violin makers and his reputation grew at home and abroad. In 1933 he formed a partnership with his sons, and continued to work with them until the 1950s.
