Notable Sales: Giuseppe Sgarbi
Sgarbi was born in Rome in 1818 and died there in 1905, but worked in Finale Emilia between 1841 and 1890. He was a rather eccentric maker, devoted to original models, sometimes given extra decorative flourishes and with a characteristic lean model with long soundholes, which have an oval shape horizontally, and a particularly extended pegbox and scroll. His workmanship is nevertheless not refined and the wood is often of local origin. The varnish is clear and bright, of orange and red shades.
