Notable Sales: John Charles Wilkinson
Born in London in 1889, Wilkinson was trained as a violinist, but lost the use of his left hand in the First World War. He subsequently learned violin making with Thomas Jacques Holder and supplied instruments for George Withers and J. & A. Beare. He was assisted by his son, also John, from around 1938. He produced many copies of a range of old Italian work, in the style of Holder and the Voller brothers, usually under false labels, or under the ficticious name of Gennaro Lanari, although those he made for Beares were relabelled in his name by the company. He died in 1961.
