Notable Sales: Hendrik Willems I
A leading early Flemish maker, whose family may be traced back to Jooris Willems, a viol maker and player of the Cathedral in Ghent in the mid-seventeenth century. The violin maker Hendrik (Heyndrick) (II) is possibly his grandson, and was working in Ghent between 1715 and 1745. He used a very well-drawn Amati model and used a rich and deeply coloured varnish of Venetian quality.
