Notable Sales: George Withers
Born in London in 1847, George was the younger brother, and initially the partner of Edward (II), sons of Edward (I). He opened his own business in St Martin’s Lane in 1878, moving to 22 Leicester Square in 1891. The shop operated under the title George Withers & Sons. Guarnerius (born 1877) and Walter Withers (born 1879) were both trained in Mirecourt. George retired in 1904, leaving the business in the hands of the sons, and died in 1931. In the following year, the business was sold. Guarnerius died in 1948.
