A violinist by training, Emilio Evasio Guerra soon turned his considerable natural ability toward violin making. He is believed to have acquired his training through the workshops of Carlo Oddone and, indirectly, Romano Marengo Rinaldi. Working under limited financial means, Guerra developed a remarkably efficient approach to production, while his limited commercial interests led him to work largely as a supplier to established makers rather than selling instruments under his own name.
Among those who commissioned his work were Fagnola, Oddone, Rinaldi and F. Guadagnini, for whom he produced instruments in the white. Although the demands of this work required considerable speed, Guerra maintained an exceptional standard of craftsmanship. This violin is based on a Guarneri del Gesù model and has a rich bass register and a colourful treble. Its response is very quick and makes it a reliable partner for any musician.
