Considered one of the most important violin makers of all time, Nicolò Amati was born into a family of Cremonese luthiers in 1596. He trained in the workshop of his father, Girolamo, and, after the plague of 1630 killed Girolamo their competitor G.P. Maggini, Nicolò was left as the only active maker in the area. He became the mentor of the new generation of Cremonese violin makers and assured the survival of the great Amati tradition. This important instrument dates from the period when Nicolò and his son Girolamo Amati II worked side by side in the family workshop. The sound is focused, warm and with a beautiful sonority.
