London, circa 1840
Thomas Kennedy ranks among the finest English cello makers of the nineteenth century. Trained in the tradition established by his father, John Kennedy, he began working independently around 1804 and went on to create a distinctive cello model inspired by Amati, now appreciated by performers worldwide.
This instrument exemplifies Kennedy’s finest craftsmanship and is made on his famed Amati model. It is finished with rich oil varnish of a red hue, featuring very fine craquelure. Tonally, the cello offers an elegant, responsive voice, combining vitality with a rich palette of colours.
