Marino & Mario Capicchioni

Marino Capicchioni was born in San Marino in 1895, and trained as a guitar maker in France before becoming established in Rimini in 1926. His success led to awards in Padua, Forli, Cremona and Rome, and a monument was erected to his memory by the Republic of San Marino in 1963, prior to his death in 1977. His work is very precise and well crafted, on Stradivari and Guarneri models with clear golden-orange varnish. He was assisted by his son Mario, born in 1926, and many instruments are jointly labelled. Marino’s own individually labelled instruments can be found from 1943, and won awards in Rome in 1952 and Ascoli Piceno in 1959.
