Notable Sales: Carlo Carletti
Born in Pieve di Cento, Bologna, in 1873, Carletti became a pupil of Raffaele Fiorini, and subsequently worked with Augusto Pollastri, Ettore Sofritti and Leandro Bisiach, often in commercial production of instruments for various houses. His instruments are often based on a Stradivari model, with occasional copies of 19th century Italian makers such as Ceruti or Marconcini, and he usually used local maple for the backs. His own labelled instruments are comparatively rare. He taught his sons Natale, Nullo and Orfeo, who became professional makers, and died in 1941.
