Notable Sales: Johannes Franciscus Cuypers
The son of Johannes Theodorus, born in the Hague in 1766, Johannes Franciscus Cuypers initially worked with his father and his younger brother, Johannes Bernardus (1781-1840), whose individually labelled instruments show him to be a slightly inferior workman. Johannes Franciscus worked for some years from 1783 in Amsterdam, but returned to the Hague, where he died in 1828. His work is more developed than that of his father and brother, with more varied and refined varnishes and a more classically Stradivarian appearance.
