Hilaire Darche

Hilaire Darche was the son of the violin maker Joseph Darche, and was born in Mirecourt in 1862, where he trained initially with Charles Gaillard and Didier Nicolas Ainé. He worked later for N.F. Vuillaume in Brussels, where he established his own business in 1886, at 62 Boulevard de Waterloo. He made copies of classical Italian work, and gained a reputation as a connoisseur and expert. Appointed luthier to the Brussels Conservatoire, he was made a Chevalier of the Order of King Leopold before his death in 1929.
