Jean Gosselin was born in Bordeaux, but came to Paris in about 1814 to work with Jean Gabriel Koliker. He subsequently worked independently in Paris up until about 1850, although he seems to have relied on instruments constructed in Mirecourt to a certain extent, and his label appears in violins of characteristic Paris and Mirecourt style.
