Johann Karl (Joan Carol) Kloz was born in Mittenwald in1709. He was the son of Matthias (I), and is thought to have been a student of his half-brother Sebastian. His own pupils include Phillip Sailer and his own sons Wolfgang and Michael. His work is of only medium quality, and strictly within the Mittenwald Stainer tradition, with some examples showing some Amati influence. The usual varnish of dark brown can rise towards a richer reddish tint.
