Johann Wilhelm Knopf, son of Karl Wilhelm Knopf, was one of the leading members of the Knopf family of German bow makers. Trained by his uncle, Christian Friedrich Knopf, he worked in Markneukirchen before establishing his own workshop in Dresden in 1884. There, he gained an outstanding reputation for producing bows of exceptional quality, branded “W. KNOPF DRESDEN“ although his earlier bows were left unstamped. His work set new standards in German bow making and remains highly regarded today.
