Notable Sales: Enrico Marchetti
Born in Milan in 1855, Enrico Marchetti trained there with Luigi Bajoni and Gaetano Rossi before leaving for Turin in about 1874.There he worked for Giofreddo Rinaldi and Antonio Guadagnini before establishing his own shop in 1881 at 10, Piazza Vittorio Emmanuele I. From there, his work won prizes at exhibitions in Turin in 1884, Antwerp and Paris in 1885, Paris again in 1886, and in Toulouse in 1887. From 1893-1912 he worked in Cuorgné, just to the north of Turin itself, assisted by his sons, Eduardo Vittorio (1882-1926), Anselmo Curletto and Romano Marengo, who later took over the shop of Marchetti’s old master Giofreddo Rinaldi, and added the Rinaldi name to his own. Marchetti died in Turin in 1930. He was an important and pivotal figure in the modern Turin school as a teacher, and as a maker of fine and very convincing copies of earlier Turin makers, as well as Stradivari, Guadagnini and Neapolitan models.
