Michele Platner

The son of Alberto Platner, Michele was born in Rome in 1684, and succeeded to his father’s shop in the Pigna district and to his position as luthier to the Palazzo Pamphilj in 1713. He taught Giulio Cesare Gigli, who in turn succeeded to the business on Platner’s death in 1752. Closely associated with David Tecchler, although it is unclear if they worked together professionally in any way. Both makers were strongly influenced by Jacob Stainer
