The craftsmanship of this cello reflects the exceptional skill of its maker, who was renowned for producing remarkably faithful copies of the great old Italian masters. From 1798 onwards, he worked in the workshop of Thomas Dodd alongside John Frederick Lott. During this formative period, Fendt developed the rich, warm varnish that became one of his hallmarks, beautifully preserved and generously present on this instrument.
