There is a touching historical inscription internally on the lower treble table written by the restorer John Read in 1946, which reads: Working on Xmas Day, owing to the atmosphere being drained of any joy this day. My only son, Fl. Officer Basil DFC, killed in an air crash and my only daughter in a mental home in consequence . Repaired by J Read, Maker, 25 Forest View Rd. E17, Pupil of Geo. Wulme Hudson'
